Today’s ride will take you from the lush, green southern slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro to the more arid western side of the mountain. You’ll start your journey cycling through fertile coffee and banana plantations in the southern region. As you head west, the terrain will transition to open plains and acacia woodlands, which are drier and offer striking views of Kilimanjaro.
In this region, known as Maasai Lands, you’ll experience the unique coexistence of the nomadic Maasai people and the surrounding wildlife. The ride will cover a mix of dirt and tarmac roads, leading you to the Olpopongi Maasai Village, where you’ll spend the night.
- Meals: Lunch and Dinner included
- Accommodation: Olpopongi Maasai Village
After breakfast you’ll depart for Longido, you will firstly ride 9KM where you will catch the Enduimet on Ngasurai gate, here you’ll cycle on the wildlife corridor with an adventure road that will lead us to the Longido town where we will spend the night.
Today promises another scenic adventure. At 08:00 AM, we’ll begin our bike ride toward Ketumbeine Village. Expect a mix of rolling hills and flatter sections, offering a diverse cycling experience. Along the way, you’ll have your first chance to interact with the famous Maasai people. Their vibrant culture and traditional way of life will provide a memorable and colorful experience.
We’ll enjoy a hot lunch amidst the African bush, soaking in the surrounding landscapes.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Mountain Kitumbeine Lodge
Today brings a unique challenge as you tackle unpaved roads from Kitumbeine to Lengai. These roads are often rough and not on Google Maps, so your front suspension will be your best friend. Despite the challenging terrain, the stunning views and the car-free environment make it a worthwhile endeavor.
The day’s journey will blend cycling and driving, especially between OlDoinyo Lengai and Lake Natron. We’ll enjoy a hot lunch en route, helping fuel our adventure.
You’ll traverse dry open plains with views of the Kerimasi, Gilai, and Kitumbeine mountains, and get close to seven striking volcanoes, including the active OlDoinyo Lengai (“Mountain of God” in Maasai). Upon reaching your camp near the shallow, saline Lake Natron, you’ll be greeted by its striking pink or red hues, created by algae, and a haven for breeding lesser flamingos.
After settling into Maasai Giraffe Camp, unwind with a refreshing dip in the local swimming pool, where the tilapia fish provide a soothing massage.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Maasai Giraffe Camp
Today promises to be an exciting journey as you leave the vibrant landscapes of Lake Natron behind and climb up to the Rift Valley escarpment. The first part of your ride will feature relatively flat sections along with occasional river crossings from the slopes of Mount OlDoinyo Lengai. You’ll enjoy great views of both the lake and the mountain, which will be welcoming you with their majestic presence.
If needed, a short transfer will take you from the camp to the junction of Longido and Engaruka, about 25 km. This option helps maintain the same route used on previous days and simplifies the journey.
As you ride, you’ll encounter local Maasai herders with their cattle, and you might spot zebras and wildebeests grazing nearby. The day features a mix of downhill and flat sections, making it a relatively easy ride. Should you need any assistance, our support vehicle will be available to help.

Today’s ride will be the final and most challenging, but also the most rewarding. You’ll start by cycling from the dirt road back onto the tarmac, heading past the lively town of Mto wa Mbu and the entrance to Lake Manyara National Park. From there, you’ll tackle a strenuous ascent up the Great Rift Valley escarpment, with breathtaking views as your backdrop.
Before reaching the top, you’ll stop at a viewpoint for a well-deserved break and a chance to capture the stunning scenery with a selfie. You’ll then continue on the tarmac road, passing through the vibrant Karatu town as you make your way towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The ride concludes at the Loduare Gate, marking the end of your exhilarating 5-day cycling tour.
